Rashanda McCants Sent to Tulsa

Lynx Acquire Guard Alexis Hornbuckle in exchange for Rashanda McCants.

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team has acquired guard Alexis Hornbuckle from the Tulsa Shock in exchange for guard/forward Rashanda McCants.

Originally drafted fourth overall in the 2008 draft by the Detroit Shock, Hornbuckle comes to the Lynx with career averages of 6.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 81 career games, 31 starts. In 15 games, 10 starts, for Tulsa this season, the 5-11 guard holds averages of 5.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. For her career, Hornbuckle is a .381 (51-of-134) three-point shooter, and has hit on a career-best .400 percent (10-of-25) of her attempts from beyond the arc in 2010. Hornbuckle averaged a league-leading 2.32 steals per game her rookie season (2008), and over her career has averaged 1.8 steals per game.

Hornbuckle has appeared in 14 career playoff games in her two seasons in the WNBA, averaging 7.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. In five playoff games in 2009, all starts, Hornbuckle averaged 10.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Hornbuckle was a part of the 2008 Detroit Shock team that won the WNBA Championship, under then-head coach Bill Laimbeer and Shock assistant, and current Lynx head coach, Cheryl Reeve.

Before her time in the WNBA, Hornbuckle was a standout at the University of Tennessee, where she captured back-toback National Championships in 2007 and 2008. The Charleston, West Virginia native was an All-SEC First Team selection in 2007 and 2008, and joined Chamique Holdsclaw and Tamika Catchings as the only Lady Volunteers to amass 900+ points, 500+ rebounds, 350+ assists, 250+ steals and 50+ blocks over a career.

McCants, originally drafted by Minnesota with the 15th overall selection in the 2009 draft, holds career averages of 4.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 51 games. In 17 contests this season, the 6-0 guard/forward averaged 5.6 points in 15.8 minutes per game.

Hornbuckle will wear #14 for the Lynx and is expected to be in uniform for tomorrow night's home contest vs. Los Angeles. The Lynx come into the matchup one game ahead of the Sparks for the fourth position in the Western Conference. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
