Now Hiring: Marketing/Public Relations Assistant

The Phoenix Mercury Marketing/Public Relations department is currently recruiting for a part-time, seasonal Assistant to report to the Director, Public Relations/Community Relations.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating all marketing efforts for the Phoenix Mercury including, but not limited to:
    • Manage the Mercury’s Adopt-a-Team program
      • Develop a year-long plan for the 2012 adopted high school team
      • Serve as the point of contact for the team/school involved in the program
      • Coordinate and attend all functions related to the program
    • Public relations
      • Daily clippings
    • Database building
    • Advertising
    • Grassroots efforts
    • Community Relations
      • Manage / distribute donation requests
    • Aid in developing and administering promotions and revenue-generating events
    • Collect and maintain samples of each promotion throughout the season and record ROI for each one
    • Work with the marketing department to develop relationships with members of the local media to generate awareness of the Mercury. Distribution of marketing materials (i.e. bobbleheads, pocket schedules) to the media and sponsor partners
    • Assist the marketing department with media, fan and sponsor requests as well as player appearances & Mascot / Hip-Hop Squad appearances
    • Support with other special events such as auctions and off-site sponsor appearances
    • Other tasks as assigned, including, but not limited to:
      • Data entry
      • Copying and delivering promotional materials to downtown businesses
      • Distribution of flyers at events

      Required skills/qualifications:

    • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Flexible schedule; ability to work evening and weekend hours
    • Dependable and detail oriented
    • Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and work independently with limited supervision
    • Work in a fast-paced environment and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds as needed
    • Pursuing a marketing or business related degree (preferred)
    • Candidates must be available to work every home game plus 30-40 office hours per week. Pay rate will be $8.00/hour and business casual attire is required. The opportunity is expected to last the entire season into October.
