Unlocking the Game - Week 4

Hey Sky Fans! It's week four of Unlocking the Game with Coach Key and Coach has sat down once again to answer the questions that you have submitted. Make sure you keep sending questions for Coach Key to answer next week, and read on to see how Coach Key responded to this week's questions.

How is Shameka feeling? How has her recovery gone?
-Marcin, Poland

Coach Key: The progress is going well. She is suffering from post concussion syndrome. There is no real time frame. It’s all about how she feels. What we are doing is proceeding in a steady and progressive manner to find out what bothers her and what doesn’t and as we gain more information about her steps towards recovery, the sooner she will be back on the court.

I see we tried a one post and four guard lineup for a few minutes in Washington and that didn't work out too well. Just curious, would you consider trying a three-big lineup? Maybe have Kraayeveld play some small forward? Hope Shameka is back soon!
-Marina, Elmwood

CK: We did try a smaller lineup. It has worked for us in the past, especially last season. The attempt is to try to keep our opponents off balance, just like Connecticut, Washington and Indiana did to us. Teams are experimenting a little bit with different lineups to bring a spark in certain situations. We are doing the same. Yes we’ve considered a big lineup as well, but until we are at full strength with all 11 players back, we will be experimenting with the smaller line up first.

The Sky seems to lack a closer, someone who can make clutch shots, have you considered acquiring Tweety(Deanna)Nolan, especially since she's available?
-Tonie, Chicago

CK: We have capable players who can make clutch last second shots. We haven’t had too many opportunities to hit a game winning or tying shot this year, but I’m confident the players we have can make those shots in the future. Nolan is under a suspended contract.

I am a 15-year-old girl that loves basketball soo much and I would like to know how come women have the power and ability to dunk but they won’t???
-Janay, Chicago

CK: I agree that they do have the power and perhaps it will happen more frequently in the future.

Coach Key, I have noticed several players moving from team to team. Yet, they either don't make the team or don't last long. Why do the teams continue to recycle the same players instead of giving the younger players (who may have been in camp but need a little P.T.) an opportunity?
-LD

CK: A coach’s job is very difficult in determining what is best for the team. At times there are young people who seem very capable. If given more time, it would seem that they are able to produce. On the other hand, coaches tend to deal with the known factor of whether someone can compete at this level or not. A coach will tend to choose a known factor versus an unknown factor. Because it is such a short season to prove yourself, if you go with the young player, you might be forfeiting your opportunities to win.
